DEAR JOHN

By Sherri Mizell & Press
RELATIVITY MEDIA AND SCREEN GEMS BEGIN PRODUCTION ON DEAR JOHN.

THE NICHOLAS SPARKS' ADAPTATION, DIRECTED BY LASSE HALLSTROM, STARS CHANNING TATUM, AMANDA SEYFRIED, RICHARD JENKINS AND HENRY THOMAS.

Charleston, SC (October 13, 2008) - Principal photography commenced today in Charleston, SC, on the Relativity Media/Screen Gems production of Dear John.

Based on the novel by best-selling author Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook, Message in a Bottle,), the film tells story of John Tyree, a young soldier home on leave (Channing Tatum; Step Up, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints) and Savannah Curtis, the idealistic college student he meets during her spring vacation (Amanda Seyfried; Mamma Mia!, HBO's Big Love). Attraction quickly turns to love and a mysteriously deep commitment.  The director is Oscar-nominated Lasse Halstrom (Cider House Rules, Chocolat).

During the tumultuous years between 2000 and 2007, the couple is separated by John's increasingly dangerous deployments.  While meeting only sporadically, they stay in touch by sending a continuous stream of love letters overseas--correspondence that eventually triggers fateful consequences.

Richard Jenkins (The Visitor, Six Feet Under) plays Mr. Tyree, John's emotionally elusive father and Henry Thomas (ET, All The Pretty Horses) plays Tim, the protective family friend who wants to make sure that Savannah does not get hurt.
I visited the set of Dear John at Cassina Point and was very
impressed with the amount of people that it takes to make a
film.  There were over 100 people working on the film.  From
producers, directors, electricians, locations, grips, makeup,
wardrobe and camera men to caterers and transportation
and security.
